I had the honor of being the 400th guest on John B I had the honor of being the 400th guest on John Brink’s podcast. 🎙️ A few takeaways: First, if you’ve ever stopped yourself from going after a goal because you felt too late, too old, or just too something—take a page out of John’s book(s). He started writing in his 70s. He took up weightlifting in his 70s. Now, at 84, he’s podcasting—and he’s prolific. Second, your challenges shape you. John discovered he had ADHD in his 50s after stumbling on Ned Hallowell’s Driven to Distraction in a bookstore. Rather than see it as a deficit, he embraced it as a superpower. Third, you wouldn’t be who you are today without adversity. John, originally from Holland, was a small, traumatized child during WWII. His town was liberated by Canadians—his heroes—and he dreamed of moving to Canada. He did. My mother, also a child during the war in Germany, was given chocolate by American soldiers when her town was liberated. She too came to America to build a life.
