It might seem obvious that a heart felt "thank you It might seem obvious that a heart felt "thank you" is good to do. My mother always had us kids write thank you notes to the point of exhaustion. When visiting my daughter on the island of Eluethe When visiting my daughter on the island of Eluethera she led us on a walk through a forest on quest for a huge banyan tree. I love this photo because it pretty much captures what I sometimes feel the neural networks in our brain look like. 🤯 We are making the next best guess on what is happening in our weird little worlds. And often, we are getting lost in our own rumination, recreating patterns that may not be all that helpful and lead us astray. 🧐 That's why I paired this definition of perfectionism by @prentishempill. It's so apt. But we can't help it if we get lost in self-doubt. The brain likes what's familiar -- not what's new or different. So take a pause and get curious. Is there another way? Another perspective? What if I dwell in what's going well in this moment? 🪷 The trick is understanding the tricky brain and connecting with the heart. I recently went with a friend to see @elizabeth_gi I recently went with a friend to see @elizabeth_gilbert_writer teach a workshop called Love Magic in the Berkshires. Many people thought they were coming for a creative writing weekend and instead it turned out to be seriously deep journal writing and a lot of #selfcompassion and healing. This is one of the exercises that set the stage for the weekend: Drawing a self portrait (the current you) you with eyes closed and with non dominant hand. I named my avatar “Pigtails” 🥹 and I have been sending that part of me a lot of patience and kindness all week. 💌 I love you, Liz. I wish I could’ve met you in person. I quote you twice in my upcoming book, The Perfectionist’s Dilemma. (Everyone should have Big Magic on their reading list.) But really I recommend checking out her Letters from Love community on Substack. Whenever I get stressed I try to redirect my atten Whenever I get stressed I try to redirect my attention to my heart area and breathe in the word "peace" and breathe out the word "calm."
